Customer’s Story
I am submitting this complaint against Paramount Van Lines, Inc. for misrepresentation, improper brokering, and failure to perform contracted moving services.
My wife and I entered into a written agreement with Paramount Van Lines for an interstate household goods move and paid a $2,600 deposit. Paramount represented itself as the moving company responsible for the move. Without our knowledge or consent, and only days before pickup, Paramount brokered the move to a third party, Backup Movers, without proper disclosure.
Backup Movers picked up our household goods and agreed to deliver them on a scheduled date. Delivery never occurred. Our belongings were over two months late and Backup Movers stopped responding to all communications. Paramount Van Lines failed to intervene, provide accurate shipment information, or take responsibility, despite being the company we contracted with and paid.
With assistance from federal and local law enforcement, we were eventually able to locate and recover our property, which had been stored for over two months with no delivery scheduled or attempted. Despite Paramount’s failure to perform the services outlined in the contract, the company refused to refund our $2,600 deposit and has made no good-faith effort to resolve this matter.
Regulatory Basis (Brief)
Applicable federal regulations include: 49 C.F.R. §§ 371.7(a), 375.401(a), 375.703, 375.130, and 375.701(a), relating to failure to disclose broker status, misrepresentation of services, failure to deliver shipment, failure to act in good faith, and failure to assume responsibility for household goods.
Relief Requested
I respectfully request assistance in obtaining a full refund of my $37,00 deposit and review of Paramount Van Lines’ business practices.
